Wasn't it originally called Starshift anyway? Then it changed to Starslip. And now it's just changed back, and Starslip is a new thing. This is how it's always been (retcon).

No, it was still Starslip in the new new universe, but Shift is a retronym now that the Superlinear is Starslip.

Are you sure Xxxyyy used a captial letter on "shift drive"? Maybe she's just describing it instead of using the industry-recognised title. Like saying "car make-go-forward" instead of "internal combustion engine". She is, after all, a maverick.

OK I forgive the confusion on the basis of the twist in today's strip. The Gordon Freeman-style crowbar was a nice touch.
