Peculiar Starslip dream

New name, new look, new crises

Peculiar Starslip dream

Postby scythemantis » Thu Nov 05, 2009 10:26 am

I DREAMT I was reading starslip last night (except, in typical dream fashion, I experienced the strip as though it were real) and the story arc had Memnon trapped on an abandoned ghost-ship with hundreds of creepy security bots resembling skeletons with cubical heads. These were programmed only to run at intruders and self-destruct, but Memnon was able to stop them by naming them as quickly as he could. I.E. "You're Sam! You're Mike!"....being named gave the robots an instant sense of self, and with it a fear of death.

Unfortunately, he gave two of them the same name by accident. This conflicted with their individuality, reverting those two back to the drone state and allowing one of them to explode a hole in the ship. The other, of course, was now special and didn't want to explode anymore, but now there was atmospheric decompression to deal with.

This is when I woke up.

Maybe someone should figure out the ending for me.

Memnon's tie catches on a piece of scenic technology, saving his life.

Mr. Jinx does something gooey.

Ship saved, Vanderbeam verbally assaults Mr. Jinx for an earlier oversight involving tea.

Read Checkerboard Nightmare.
