Archive for December 2003 From that French site, kind of an odd picture of H.P. Lovecraft: ![]() "Come on, Howie, give us a smile!" "Well, all right. I just hate how I look in pictures." "It's fine, really!" After watching The Music Man, I thought of an intrigue/murder mystery fanfic that would take place after (or perhaps even during) the events of the film. I call it "The 77th Trombone."* * A new common thread in my sense of humor is the presentation of one more than there should be, and the confusion or interest that arises from it. Examples of this would be The Third Man, or a non-titular example would be the "x-and-1/2th" of an established x (Duck Dodgers, Naked Gun's sequel, etc). I shall dub this phenomenon a Turlandism, after L.P. Turland, an obscure early 20th Century horror writer whose stories often hinged on the same concept (an additional, unseen door; a building with two basements, etc). http://pc.watch.impress.co.jp/docs/2003/1218/sony_06.wmv I think everyone in America should watch this video, and realize that, the most I've seen out of American robotics research is one of those damn "jumping" bots (the one that looks like two robotic pogo sticks under a bike helmet, literally drenched in hanging wires and cables; tethered, it can run in a circle and only fall down part of the time). In my inbox yesterday: the only single woman who does't mind being perceived as having slept around! What tense is that? And some bonus Christmas spam: Santa Clauss get it up with c.ialis and v*i.a.g*ra Oh, Santa. Melissa bought an album (or more) off of iTunes by Fountains of Wayne, a group that seems to have made a career of pop songs for twenty-somethings new to the workforce, or at least new to the realization that the endless summer is dead. I'm depressed. http://www.azcentral.com/offbeat/articles/1202condomgiveaway-ON.html Tagline: "WASHINGTON - The 'C' in Washington D.C. may soon stand for condoms." What if that wasn't just a cute intro to the story? I'm sure a good part of the population doesn't even know what "D.C." stands for anyway. We should change it every decade. |
